SUMMARY:IN-PERSON | CEO Series with H&R Block's Jeff Jones
DESCRIPTION:The newly relaunched CEO Series is back! Initially established in 2001\, the CEO Series will allow members and guests to connect with Kansas City CEOs as they share their leadership journeys and walk away with insights from their business experience and the latest business trends. Whether you want to learn how to enhance your own personal and professional performance or simply just hear from the best in the business\, you will not want to miss this!\n\n\n\nModerated by CX board member Tracey DeMarea\, join us September 6th for lunch at UMKC Bloch Executive Hall\, as we hear from H&R Block's CEO\, Jeff Jones!\n\n \n\n\n\n\nJeff became President & CEO of H&R Block in October\, 2017. In his first five years\, the Company has transformed from a consumer tax business to a business and financial services platform for Main Street America through brands such as H&R Block\, Block Advisors\, Wave and Spruce. Block emerged from the pandemic on very strong footing\, having grown revenue\, earnings\, and market share from 2019 to 2022. Its performance has been rewarded by the public market with $HRB reaching 15 new all-time highs over the last year. Equally important\, the Connected Culture being created has resulted in exceptional associate engagement survey scores\, becoming Great Place to Work Certified\, receiving a 100% score on the Corporate Equality Index\, and receiving several acknowledgments as America's best employer for women and diversity.\n\n\n\nPrior to H&R Block\, Jones served as Uber's first president of the global ride sharing business with accountability for a $20B+ P&L and operations in over 450 cities and 70 countries. Jeff led a team of more than 6\,000 employees across Strategy and Planning\, Operations\, Analytics\, Customer Support\, Product Operations and Marketing. Jeff's time at Uber was marked by his values-based stand against the Company and its founder\, who's troubles have been well documented by the global media and the book\, Super Pumped\; The Battle for Uber\, by Mike Isaac.\n\n\n\nBefore Uber\, Jeff was EVP\, Chief Marketing Officer for Target. Heralded as a cultural change-maker\, he implemented a single-source methodology to measure customer satisfaction across Target\, shaped the physical store experience\, introduced billion dollar digital products like Cartwheel and Target Guest Axis\, and multiple brands such as Simply Balanced\, Threshold\, Cat & Jack\, Pillowfort and Made to Matter. Jones helped restore its "Tarjay" image through innovative advertising and a series of collaborations with designer/brands such as Neiman Marcus\, Lilly Pulitzer\, Marimekko\, and Jason Wu. He is broadly credited for helping Target rebuild business momentum\, restore its reputation\, and recover after the 2013 data breach.\n\n\n\nPrior to Target\, Jeff spent nearly 20 years in various sales\, advertising agency\, and marketing roles with iconic brands such as The Coca-Cola Company\, Gap and Leo Burnett. In addition\, his entrepreneurial and operational skills have been tested by helping establish and sell a middle-market technology consulting firm\, by turning around a failing ad agency that had been acquired by Leo Burnett\, and finally\, by co-leading a management buy back of the agency McKinney from a French public holding company.\n\n\n\nCurrently\, Jones serves on the board of directors of Advance Auto Parts (NYSE: $AAP) where he chairs the Compensation Committee and is a member of the Nominating and Governance Committee. He is a Director of H&R Block and serves on the Finance Committee. Additionally\, Jeff is a member of the Council for Inclusive Capitalism\, Fast Company Impact Council\, Kansas City Economic Club\, and is advancing work for justice and opportunity as a member of Fortune's CEO Initiative\, by pledging to the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion\, as well as the Catalyst CEO Champions for Change.\n\n\n\nDuring his career\, Jones has advised PointInside\, Zoove\, Brit+Co.\, and The Mayo Clinic in addition to serving nonprofits including Durham Academy\, Chicago Children's Advocacy Center\, The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University and the Coach K Center on Leadership and Ethics at Fuqua Business School.\n\n\n\nJones was inducted into the CMO Club Hall of Fame in 2020. You can hear him speak about leadership and transformation on Next Question with Katie Couric\, Wisdom from the Top with Guy Raz\, and The Kara Goldin Show. Jones has a Bachelor's Degree in Communication from the University of Dayton and is a graduate of the PG program at Fork Union Military Academy.
