SUMMARY:UMKC Women In Business | Meet a Mentor
DESCRIPTION:Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young women? Do you want to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders? If so\, please see below from the UMKC Women of Business!\n\n\n\n\n\nWomen in Business (WIB) is a student-led organization\, open to all majors. They began in January of 2023 to help foster a network of support for women and create a safe space for discussion. WIB primarily interacts with members through monthly meetings that feature a central topic and panel discussion. If there has been one common thread throughout every panel\, it has been the importance of mentorship. For this meeting\, WIB hopes to answer that all important question students have\, "How do I find a mentor?"\n\n \n\nThe first portion of the "Meet a Mentor" event will cover how to manage a mentor relationship and help guide students through questions such as\, "Who pays for coffee?" or "What do I do if my initial message doesn't get a response?" After this short workshop\, it will transition into speed-dating style networking. During this time\, groups of two-four students will meet with one mentor. The groups will rotate every 10 minutes. At the end of this event\, we will be asking our members take the initiative to reach out to three mentors whom they would like to meet with again. \n\n \n\nCurrently\, we are looking for 10-20 businesswomen from all industries to help serve as mentors to our members. Students have specifically expressed interest in meeting professionals from fields such as finance\, nonprofit administration\, health administration\, sports marketing\, and small business owners. All we ask of these mentors is that they attend our April 8th meeting\, and that they are open to scheduling follow-ups with the students who reach out to connect. \n\n \n\nIf you are interested in participating as a mentor for this event or learning more about UMKC Women In Business\, register for this free event or email WIB Vice President Leah McIntyre lkmghx@umsystem.edu.
