SUMMARY:VIRTUAL CIRCLE | Lessons In Leadership
DESCRIPTION:Lessons in Leadership is for leaders eager to grow. Join fellow CXers on the 1st Tuesday of every month for a conversation about a relevant leadership topic to grow in knowledge\, learn from others\, and identify ways to stretch yourself. \n\n\n\nEach month our Lessons in Leadership facilitator\, Julie Klima\, will interview a guest presenter who will share their experience and philosophies about leadership. Join us on April 5 at Noon as we learn from Kelly Wilson\, Owner/Founder of Weave Gotcha Covered.\n\n\n\nWhether you are a manager or project leader\, new entrant to the workforce with company leadership on the horizon\, an entrepreneur leading in a variety of ways\, or an executive\, you are welcome to join Lessons in Leadership. Real discussion leads to evolving mindsets and behaviors\, and the CX virtual environment is comfortable for open discussion and sharing.\n\nKelly Wilson\, a lifelong autodidact\, has always had a passion for living "outside the box"\, a box many wonder if she even knows exists. A combination of varied job experiences from NYC to LA\, and a path of eclectic higher education has created the rich foundation for Kelly's life.\n\n \n\nAs a result of the 9/11 driven economic downturn\, the family lost everything. After the privilege of exploring the world for 17 years "unschooling" her two daughters\, Kelly found herself in the job market. Without a career to fall back on\, she found a minimum wage\, $5-an-hour job\, at a local fabric store. Noticing the numerous requests for sewing referrals she and her wife (Lonnie Vanderslice)\, identified the need to start a sewing business. Weave Gotcha Covered! was born in the basement of their home with a sewing machine\, and the commission of a "While You Were Out" make-over. Occasionally\, you can still catch her on HGTV episodes of\, Bargain Mansions.\n\nKelly's hard work and dedication to "doing right" by the customer\, by the employee\, and by society\, provided the blueprint for WGC's mission driven social enterprise business model. With a mission to employ underserved women of the urban core\, Kelly tweaks standard business practices by questioning the status quo.\n\nIn 2016 Kelly\, Lonnie and friend Linnca Stevens\, co-founded The Sewing Labs\, a 501c3 non profit. Currently located in the newly renovated Don Bosco center\, TSL is dedicated to teaching sewing to anyone in the community that wants to learn. \n\nIn 2019\, Kelly and Lonnie\, purchased WomenSpirit a 25 year old\, Kansas City based\, clergy vestment apparel manufacturing company. Rebranding with a gender neutral name\, Sacred Stitches\, the company is based in NKC and enjoys an international footprint.\n\n2022 brings much hope as Kelly continues to navigate the leadership of two companies during COVID\, a time frame personally bookended by the unexpected loss of her spouse and business partner Lonnie in January 2020 and then a personal heart attack in Feb 2022. Leadership and Entrepreneurism is an ever changing journey.\n\nA change maker and a bright light in the world\, Kelly passionately asks\, "why can't we?!"
