DESCRIPTION:Many people know what biases are. Not as many understand the term microaggressions. In essence\, they are a person's implicit\, or unconscious\, bias expressed. Coined by psychiatrist Chester M. Pierce\, MD\, in the 1970s\, microaggressions can be described as "death by a thousand paper cuts" for the slow and incessant trauma that builds up over time. This type of exclusionary behavior erodes trust within the workplace and negatively impacts the mental and emotional wellness of marginalized individuals.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Rebecca Baumgartner is the Vice President of Human Resources for the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. As a champion for personal and professional wellbeing\, Rebecca brings her extensive background in human resources\, organizational development\, and diversity\, equity\, and inclusion to help others strengthen their personal awareness and build new skills to more powerfully navigate their journey.
